What it’s like to go through the Swedish RN Residency and Fellowship programs
The Swedish RN Residency and Fellowship Programs provide RNs everything they need to transition from school to the hospital floor or to a new specialty.
Residents and Fellows quickly develop their critical thinking and clinical nursing skills through a combination of didactic and simulation learning in conjunction with a preceptor environment. Hear what some RNs who went through our RN Residency and Fellowship Programs have to say:
Raj, RN, Swedish Ballard
“The Fellowship Program is what drew me to Swedish. Going in, I wasn’t comfortable with being a hospital-setting nurse, because I’d never been one. Swedish offered this amazing program for nurses who haven’t yet been in a hospital setting. It included a didactic portion, as well as a practicum portion. During the 14-week program, I was able to assimilate into the hospital side of nursing.”
Tarunjit, Neuro Critical Care RN, Swedish Cherry Hill
“I chose the Swedish Residency Program because I heard it was the best one. Only a couple of hospitals invest so much time into creating ICU nurses out of new grads. It requires a specialized program and preceptors. From the beginning, it felt like there were people looking out for me. It’s a really supportive environment. And everything is organized. All you have to worry about is doing your best and preparing yourself to be the best nurse possible.”
Sohyun, RN, Neuroscience and Epilepsy, Swedish Cherry Hill
“I had a really good experience with the Swedish Fellowship Program. Both the hands-on and classroom experiences were helpful because they went into great detail about my specialty. For example, since I was new to neuro, I took a lot of classes about stroke and epilepsy care—and learned all of the information I needed to be able to work with my patient population. I practiced in the SIM lab with a mannequin, reacting to mock codes. The on-unit program is half day and half night shifts so you can experience both. Swedish really tries to expose cohorts to different experiences, which was really helpful.”
