We recently changed our brand tagline to “Health for Good.” Here’s what our Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) said “Health for Good” means to them.

MARGO BYKONEN, MN, RN, NE-BC, Chief Nursing Officer

Health for Good means we strive for excellence with all the services that we deliver to our patients and that we listen and hear the individual’s goals and priorities in order to plan our care accordingly.

Health for Good means that we are contributing in a positive way to our broader community through education, preventative care, outreach efforts and partnership. It means that we are an integral part of our collective community’s health.

BRIAN TRICKLE, MN, RN, NE-BC, CNO, Swedish Issaquah and Redmond

For me, the concept of Health for Good means a state in which the body, mind and spirit are healthy. This enables one to thrive in life and makes it far easier to do a great service for our patients and loved ones when we keep ourselves healthy. I believe good health enables everyone to propagate good thoughts, good performance and good deeds. Likewise, when we as caregivers promote health maintenance and assist our patients in times of poor health, we are doing good for the communities we serve. The good work we all do in health care is multiplied tenfold in the deeds of others when poor health is no longer a barrier.

To me, Health for Good is about humanity. It means that we care for the whole person with love, compassion and the goal of improving their overall quality of life. When we do this for our patients, their families and each other, we are giving back to the community in a much bigger way. Health for Good represents how Swedish is more than just a health care provider but also a pillar for promoting the holistic wellness of our communities.

I see Health for Good as meaning that we provide health care for the good of all. We do not turn patients away, and we are always there to provide the highest quality of care without regard to any social determinants of health. Our values provide the roadmap to Health for Good: Compassion, Justice, Excellence, Dignity, Integrity and Safety.

Health for Good signifies the privilege we have to engage individuals over a lifespan in an active way to optimize their health to prevent or to alleviate disease. When we cannot alleviate disease, assisting individuals to maintain an optimal level of well-being becomes our focus. Health for Good extends past caring for individuals to our communities. Volunteering in our communities promotes the health and well-being of the communities we serve.

As a nurse, mom, daughter, wife and grandma, Health for Good means that everyone receives health care to improve their life from their individual perspective. It means that we value each person individually and meet their unique needs without judgment. It means to me that we leave them in a better place than how they came to us. It means that we help them compassionately with any health care transition, including giving life, improving mobility and quality of life, along with transitioning through palliative care, hospice and death with dignity.

Health for Good demonstrates Swedish’s commitment to our community to assist them in achieving their best health.
