A fast track to career success for this Supervisor of Clinic Operations
We’re passionate about professional growth and love when caregivers have big goals. In Brittany’s case, from her first day at the Providence Swedish Clinic in Redmond Ridge, she had her eyes on the prize of moving into a supervisory role as quickly as possible.
Brittany says that she was clear about her intentions. “I told my supervisors that I didn’t want to be stagnant, and they recognized that,” she says. “They’ve done everything they can to support me since then.” And that focus and support paid off: this top-notch caregiver started as a Patient Care Coordinator in 2022 and has been promoted—twice—most recently to Supervisor of Clinic Operations. Here’s her advice to others looking to rise through the ranks quickly.
Stay in touch with your network
Brittany says that she considered the Redmond Ridge clinic in the first place because of a connection from a past clinic, Jasmine. They’d stayed connected, so when the opportunity arose, Brittany found out quickly and got the inside scoop from someone she trusted. “She’s one of the main reasons I wanted to come here,” says Brittany. “She just knows so much, and it’s hard to learn from textbook engagement, policy and stuff like that. There are certain things you just innately learn from doing it, and I feel like she just has so much of that. It’s cool to have her as a resource here.” She adds that she’s supported by Jasmine and all managers and leaders in her role. “It is so nice,” Brittany shares. “This is probably one of the first areas of healthcare where I’ve felt supported by upper management.”
Work where you can make the most impact
Brittany always wanted to help people and strongly identifies with our nonprofit Mission to improve the health and well-being of each patient we serve, and to take care of everyone in our community—including the uninsured or underinsured. While Brittany was licensed at 18 and worked as a Pharmacy Tech right out of high school for almost 11 years, she felt that she could influence positive change more effectively elsewhere. “Pharmacy could be difficult when patients are on set incomes and can’t afford medication. Sometimes, you don’t have a lot of leeway to adjust in the pharmacy because it’s all done via the doctor. I had wanted to transition to a setting where there were maybe more options to offer people.” She was surprised to find that she enjoyed the administration side. “It seems to be something I’m good at,” Brittany laughs.
Prioritize your downtime
As driven as Brittany is to succeed professionally, she also knows how important it is to take time for herself. “Swedish is a good balance of all the things l like. I can work here and still have a life,” she says. For Brittany, that means taking care of her dog, cat, and plants, doing pottery, and looking for ways to positively impact the environment. “I grew up on a community farm in Wisconsin, so I do a lot of homesteading stuff just to recycle, repurpose.”
Work where your values align with your employer’s
Brittany says that when she accepted the role at Providence Swedish, she had multiple job offers, but she had an easy time choosing to join our organization because it aligned with her values. “One of the reasons I picked Swedish over other hospitals was because of their commitment to diversity and inclusiveness,” she says. “Everyone is welcome here.”
