Live and work in a Puget Sound city with small town vibes
Our hospitals in Centralia, Olympia, Everett, Issaquah, and Edmonds offer caregivers all the professional support, commitment to excellence and growth opportunities of a large health system in locations with a smaller town feel and shorter commutes, to boot! Plus, you can still easily drive to Seattle or Tacoma to catch your favorite bands when they’re in town. Check out the benefits of working with us in one of our locations up or down the road, or across the bridge, from Seattle.
Centralia: genuine people, affordability and Mediterranean-style summers
Located halfway between Seattle and Portland and 14% less expensive to live in than the average city in Washington (Economic Research Institute), Centralia is a welcoming, family friendly place to live and work. With a population of 18,000, Centralia has what the Köppen Climate Classification system calls a “warm-summer Mediterranean climate,” which means its temperatures are usually mild, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F. That means Centralia caregivers don’t have to worry about overheating when they get out to enjoy the nearby Mount Rainier National Park and beautiful rivers for fishing or kayaking.
The Downtown Centralia Historic District is the heart of the community, and you’ll find boutiques, galleries, a farmers’ market and restaurants. Fun fact: Centralia is home to Fox Theatre, Washington’s oldest operating movie theater, which hosts classic film screenings and live events.
Providence caregivers say 128-bed Providence Centralia Hospital embodies the caring spirit of the Centralia community. “Our hospital is small, but we’re mighty,” says RN Miranda. “We are full of truly wonderful people that genuinely care about their patients and their co-workers. You just feel the love when you walk into the doors here.”
An added perk? Providence Centralia Hospital is located right off I-5 and traffic really isn’t a concern, so no matter where you live in the area, you’re apt to have a quick commute.

Olympia: Washington’s funky, friendly capital city
Feel part of the community in Oly (pronounced oh-lee), located about an hour and a half south of Seattle and boasting a modest 55,000 residents. Family-friendly Olympia is 7% less expensive to live in than the average city in Washington (Economic Research Institute), and boasts walkable neighborhoods with excellent schools—such as Olympia High School, which received the College Success Award in 2020 and 2022 based on its success in preparing students for college (Great Schools).
Offering easy access to the ocean and the southern part of Olympic National Park, Olympia is home to the Washington State Capitol, Evergreen State College, a thriving arts and music scene, indie theaters, a farmer’s market, record stores, lavender and pumpkin farms, a wildlife refuge, plenty of parks, independent coffee shops and craft beer galore. And Olympia’s famous artesian water wells provide some of the purest drinking water in the nation. Locals even bring jugs to fill up for free!
Olympia has many opportunities for community involvement and that spirit of togetherness is clear in the halls of Providence St. Peter Hospital, as well. Says RN Shellie, “Everyone that I work with loves being here. My coworkers are like family. We work as strong team members, never leaving anyone high and dry, and we couldn’t work without each other.”
With excellent camaraderie and a team-first spirit, it’s no wonder that St. Peter is Magnet® recognized for nursing excellence and is the leading hospital in southwest Washington.

Everett: water, mountains, and easier travel for your paid time away
Look to the west and you’ll find Port Gardner Bay, an inlet of Possession Sound, part of Puget Sound. Look to the (north)east and you’ll find the Cascade Mountains—a clear day in Everett offers clear views of Mount Pilchuck, Three Fingers, Glacier Peak and White Horse. With Mother Nature all around, it’s safe to say that this 111,000-strong community is an outdoor paradise—but it also boasts a quaint downtown, minor league sports teams, standout restaurants, live events, easy access to Seattle by bus, train or car, the famous Boeing assembly plant and the headquarters of Funko, where fans can design their own custom Pop figures.
RN Beth says Everett is great for families. “I have 13-year-old twins, and we love the ferry to the San Juan Islands. We take our dog and walk onto the ferry and just spend the day exploring.”
While our Everett caregivers find plenty to do in the city, when they opt to leave for vacation, they can fly out of Paine Field Airport with Alaska Airlines—a quicker and easier experience than flying out of SeaTac. According to the Paine Field website, “For perspective, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is the 28th busiest airport in the world and the 11th busiest in the United States, handling approximately 600 departures per day. The Seattle Paine Field Air Terminal can accommodate a total of 24 departures per day.”
On the job, our Everett caregivers serve the community at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett (PRMCE), a Best Hospital in the Seattle Metro area (U.S. News & World Report) that is Magnet® recognized for nursing excellence.

Issaquah: a nature lover’s paradise
Ever wanted to channel your inner Cheryl Strayed and hike the Pacific Coast Trail? You might want to start by living, working and training in the nature lover’s paradise of Issaquah. The city is home to the Cougar, Squak and Tiger Mountains, which locals know collectively as the “Issaquah Alps,” together providing more than 15,000 acres of connected public forest lands and more than 100 miles of connected trails.
Even if hiking isn’t your thing, the scenery makes for a lovely backdrop. Says Swedish Issaquah RN Karen, “The Swedish Issaquah campus is nice. You feel like you are almost part of the mountains.”
Beyond looking gorgeous, there’s plenty to do in Issaquah, from standout restaurants and bars to boutique shopping, fitness centers, bakeries, indie coffee shops and a picturesque, revitalized downtown. The city hosts the annual Salmon Days Festival, a celebration of the salmon migration with parades, food, and family-friendly entertainment, and boasts one of the best school districts in the metro area.
Swedish Issaquah offers an exceptionally wide range of ambulatory and inpatient (120+ beds) services. What’s more, this innovative, patient-focused facility is also one of the most energy-efficient hospitals in the country. Finally, it’s located adjacent to I-90, making it an easy commute for caregivers living in other communities like North Bend, Snoqualmie, and Bellevue.

Edmonds: coastal living with a community feel
Edmonds is a waterfront town located just a hop, skip, and a jump north of Seattle. With stellar views of Puget Sound, a lively arts scene, and easy ferry access to the Olympic Peninsula, Edmonds offers a mix of small-town and coastal living. Edmonds is home to more than 42,000 residents as well as Washington’s first Creative District, featuring public art installations, galleries, and local theater performances year-round. Plus, this family friendly city boasts fantastic schools.
With more than 200 licensed inpatient beds, Swedish Edmonds offers exceptional care with a full scope of medical and surgical services including Level IV Trauma emergency medicine, diagnostic, treatment and support services. Located just off Highway 99, Swedish Edmonds is an easy commute for caregivers in nearby communities such as Lynwood, Mountlake Terrace and Shoreline.
Emergency Department RN Jared grew up in Edmonds, down the street from the hospital where he now works. He traveled in his 20s but when he wanted to put down roots, he moved back to the city he loves. “We have a great mix of walks of life and ethnicities,” he says, referring to both the city of Edmonds and his team at the hospital. Jared says that while healthcare is serious, his team knows how to laugh together, which helps keep stress at bay. He also says the smaller, hometown hospital affords him a better ability to balance career and family.
“I spend a lot more quality time with my family than I would have at another job,” says Jared. “We even have free parking. You’ll always have a parking space, and it’s always free!”
